Brooklyn Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte on Sunday, March 26 endorsed Mayor Bill de Blasio for re-election, citing his strong record of improving public schools, creating affordable housing for working families and improving relations between police and the communities they serve.
“Mayor Bill de Blasio has stood strong on a lot of key issues facing New Yorkers and has delivered on many of the things that he assured us that he would address when he first took office,” said Bichotte, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, who represents the 42nd Assembly District in Brooklyn. “The mayor has been strong on housing by keeping it affordable through his smart housing plan, which includes supportive housing, and 0 percent rent increases.
“He has followed through on promises that previous mayors have not, such as Universal Pre-K for All, and has placed a great focus on M/WBEs and small businesses by creating more access and opportunities,” added Bichotte, the chair of the Subcommittee on Oversight of Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs).
In addition, Bichotte said de Blasio has addressed poverty by prioritizing a living wage, and by delivering on “great contracts for our very deserving labor unions especially those who have been operating without a contract for years.”
She noted that crime is at an all-time low, stating that de Blasio is working with the New York Police Department (NYPD) to create a community-policing model throughout the city.
Bichotte said de Blasio continues to keep the diverse city safe against “unlawful immigration bans by continuing to make services available to immigrant communities and supporting their equal protection under the law by virtue of the 14th amendment.
He has also been a friend to the immigrant community, including the Haitian community, through the implementation of IDNYC, and by making Haitian-Creole one of the official languages used by the city in its materials, Bichotte said.
“That is why I am proudly endorsing our Mayor, Bill de Blasio, for mayor once again in 2017, and will continue to support and partner with him on all matters that will enhance the quality of life for all New Yorkers,” she said.
The mayor, in turn, said Bichotte is “one of the hardest working legislators our city is lucky to have.
“She has been tireless advocate for her community and for all New Yorkers, standing up for our schools, affordable housing, and seniors,” he said. “I am proud to have her support, and I look forward to continuing to work together to make our city stronger and fairer.
The mayor has also been endorsed by the Working Families Party, the United Federation of Teachers, District Council 37, SEIU 32BJ, Musicians Local 802, the RWDSU, the Uniformed Sanitation Men’s Association, UNITE-HERE Local 100, the Professional Staff Congress and the Laundry, Distribution and Food Service Joint Board of Workers United, as well as dozens of elected leaders.
