South Africa all-rounder JP Duminy blasted the fastest-ever Caribbean Premier League (CPL) half century, while young spinner Antigua-born spinner Hayden Walsh Jr bagged a career-best 5/19, including three scalps in one over to steer Barbados Tridents to victory over champions Trinbago Knight Riders at the Kensington Oval Barbados last Thursday night.
Duminy hit a blistering 20-ball 65, including his fifty off 15 balls as the Barbados Tridents made 192 for five off their 20 overs.
Duminy hit pacer Ali Khan for three massive sixes and a four in the l8th over, which brought 24 runs, then blasted Jimmy Neeshan for three fours and two sixes in a 25-run 19th over to push the Tridents to 178. But Captain Kieron Pollard removed Duminy in the last over and opposite number Jason Holder for a duck to keep the Tridents from reaching 200.
The result saw the TKR remain in second position with nine points, with the Tridents, who won at home for the first time in nine attempts, leaping over St. Lucia Zouks to fourth spot with six points.
Guyana Amazon Warriors, who topped the table with nine points will meet TKR in the playoffs at the Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad this week.
Tallawahs and St. Lucia Zouks have been eliminated from the playoffs.
