Four of Barbados’ elite football teams are expected to take the field battle ready on the last weekend of this month in a semi-final clash that would lead the winners on to compete for a grand cash prize of $25,000.
The Capelli Sport Super Cup, the island’s new professional competition involving 24 of the top teams, kicked off late August and following a round of clashes over the weekend, Barbados Defence Force Weymouth advanced to play Wales, and Ellerton qualified to take on University of the West Indies in the other semi-final.
Both games are set for Nov. 24.
So rich in prizes is this professional league that three of the four semi-finalists are set to receive cash prizes. Besides the champion’s take of $25,000 in the final that is set for Dec. 1, the runner-up in that final encounter will take home $10,000. The two losers in the semi-finals will play off for third place which carries a prize of $5,000.
The last two teams for the semi-finals matchups qualified over the weekend.
In getting to the lucrative semi-finals Barbados Defence Force crushed Gall Hill Saturday night at the Wildey Turf.
Then at the same venue Sunday, the boys from Ellerton came out tops in a closer encounter with St Andrew who they put away 2-1.
