Barbados put a total of five goals into the United States Virgin Islands’ net in two matches over the course of four days in the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football Nations League fixtures.
In the first match of these home and away games the Bajan Tridents were in full control of the the match which they hosted at the Barbados Football Association’s Wildey, St. Michael AstroTurf, but had only one goal to show thanks to a strike by forward Nicholas Blackman Saturday.
The Barbadians then flew to the Bethlehem Soccer Complex in the USVI and delivered four goals into the net of their hosts Tuesday.
These victories put the Tridents at the top of their four-team group group of Cayman Islands, St. Martin, and the USVI.
Cayman Islands and Barbados are tied with nine points from four games, but the Tridents edged ahead because of a better goal scoring average, eight. The Cayman Islands footballers have an average of one.
The Nations League competition involving all teams from the Caribbean, Central and North America, kicked off on Sept. 05, and runs into 2020. Out of this the top 16 teams will play for the prestigioous Gold Cup, the top regional competition in 2021.
In this preliminary stage, teams are split into a series of groups.
