Apply for Destination>Brooklyn mini-grants: Adams

Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams and the Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) are urging the borough’s small local cultural organizations to apply for the second annual Destination>Brooklyn mini-grants.

Funded by Adams and NYC & Company Foundation, Destination>Brooklyn makes $1,500 awards available for the creation, production and distribution of print promotional materials that represent the organization’s artistic and cultural activities, with an emphasis on borough tourism.

Last year, $45,000 in mini-grants was awarded to 30 local cultural organizations in over a dozen neighborhoods across Brooklyn, which resulted in over 115,000 pieces of marketing materials, the borough president’s office said.

It said applications are now open and will be accepted at brooklynartscouncil.org through Thursday, Jul. 16.

“Destination>Brooklyn makes it possible for the popularity of our brand to translate into prosperity for the local cultural organizations that capture our diversity and artistic spirit,” Adams said.

“I am pleased to partner again with BAC and the NYC & Company Foundation to make this opportunity for advancing tourism in our borough while giving the arts an even greater stage to shine in communities throughout Brooklyn”, he added.

Morgan Lindsey Tachco, BAC grants and services director, said BAC Grants annually distributes over a quarter million dollars to the borough’s artists, collectives and small organizations.

“The Destination>Brooklyn mini-grant is a unique, welcome addition to BAC’s funding portfolio,” he said. “Diverse, groundbreaking creativity is a huge part of what defines our borough, thanks to the work of our local cultural organizations.

“We’re grateful to the Office of the Borough President and the NYC & Company Foundation for providing an opportunity for these organizations to hone their brands and broaden their reach to the millions of tourists that enjoy our city each year. Brooklyn is the premier international cultural destination – these local organizations are the reason”, he added.

“Unique cultural organizations and programming play an important role in attracting tourists to Brooklyn, as well as other boroughs,” said Fred Dixon, president and CEO of NYC & Company. “NYC & Company Foundation hopes to increase five-borough tourism and its economic impact by supporting local culture.”

Brooklyn-based organizations that operate on an annual budget of under $500,000, and have arts and culture at the core of their mission statement, are invited to apply, according to the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office.

It said special consideration is given to organizations with a proven track record of serving diverse local audiences and a commitment to audience development.
