Field athlete Michelle-Lee Ahye is the TT Olympic Committee (TTOC) 2023 Sportswoman of the year winner, while cyclist Nicholas Paul is the TTOC 2023 Sportsman of the year winner. The announcements were made at the 29th Annual TTOC Award ceremony in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.
The 31-year old Ahye, last won the Sportswoman of the Year award in 2021.
She had a good year with her best moments of 2023 was at the Pan American Games where she grabbed bronze in the women’s 100-metre event in 11.53 seconds. She was the only TT track and field athlete to win a medal in Chile.
Ahye is TT’s most elite women’s sprinter and has dominated in local meets.
Teniel Cambell, took the Sportswoman of the year award for 2022 and has continued to show her potential in road cycling.
Meanwhile, it was 25-year old Paul third TTOC Sportsman of the Year award. He has won the award in 2019 and 2021 also.
Paul had a memorable year especially at the 2023 International Cycling Union World Track Championships in Scotland in August.
Paul, who is the world record holder in the individual men’s sprint, earned a historic silver. He also showed his class at the Pan American Games in Chile defending the sprint title he won at the 2019 Pan American Games in Peru and also bagged silver in the men’s keirin.
Sprinter Jereem Richards, won the sportsman of the year award for 2022.
