Leewards Defeat Windwards By 4 Runs
First Semi-Final:
The Leeward Islands won the toss and elected to bat in the first semi-final of the WICB Regional 50-over tournament. After losing 4 wickets for 80 runs it took Captain Wilden Cornwall 38 and Chesney Hughess 81 to put a partnership of 76 runs to push their team to 156 for 5.
Spinner Shane Shillingford trapped Hughes for 81 and captain Darren Sammy removed Gary Williams and Omari Banks both for naught. Leewards ended at 213 all out for 49 overs. Windward’s Captain Darren Sammy came out with the best bowling figures of 4 for 47 from 10 overs.
Bad Start For Windwards
Devon Smith and Andre Fletcher both went for ducks in the first ball they received. Opener Johnson Charles and Keddy Lesporis steered their team off the heat but after, Charles fell for 34 from 64 balls and Lesporis for 22. Sammy scored 19 as his team stumbled to 85 for 5 in the 25th over. Lundon James blasted 64 from 87 balls but a hat trick by Anthony Martin in the 45th over shattered the Windwards’ hopes. They ended 209 for 9 in 50 overs.
